Preparing For Storms In Brisbane

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned there is a possibility of Tropical Cyclone Alfred making landfall between Bundaberg and the Gold Coast this week. There is the possibility of major flooding, strong winds, and coastal erosion.
- Alfred is moving southeast but is forecast to turn west towards the southern Queensland coast from Tuesday.
- High probability of a tropical cyclone is indicated until Thursday, then Alfred is expected to weaken quickly below tropical cyclone strength as it moves over land.
- Regardless of Alfreds track, southern Queensland and northeast New South Wales will experience coastal impacts, with possible gales and expected rainfall from Wednesday.
Know your risk
Your first step to Getting Ready is to find out when, and where Cyclone Alfred may cross land, how severe it could potentially be, and if you will be affected. Weather and flood warnings are here - https://www.getready.qld.gov.au/alerts-and-warnings/severe-weather-flood-and-cyclone-warnings
Prepare your home - check that gutters and downpipes are clear, secure outdoor furniture and other objects, keep pets inside, and fill buckets and baths in case of interruptions to mains water supply.
If there is flooding as a result of the approaching weather system, many businesses and support services may be incapacitated. This may cause significant difficulty in supporting our customers.
What to do in case of flooding or damage
If access to your property or services such as electricity/phone/water are restricted, tenants are asked to understand the limitations imposed upon their property manager.
Ensure you are safe - belongings can be compensated on your tenants contents insurance but your lives can not.
Consider staying with family or friends.
Take photos if safe for you to do so, and engage the SES for emergency tarp installations to avoid damage to your belongings.
Contact essential services and ask for details concerning the re-establishment of power, water, sewerage etc.
